Under the auspices of the International Olive Council (IOC) on November 10th, 2017, the first international forum of museums dealing with olive and olive oil culture entitled „La cultura dell’olivo, la cultura del Mediterraneo“, was held in Imperia in Italy. During the forum museums from countries within the RECOMED network – from Spain, Greece, Tunisia, Italy and Croatia, presented themselves. The House of Istrian olive oil from Pula, as the only participant from Croatia, presented the interesting cultural and historical heritage of Istrian oleiculture, as well as Istrian olive oils, which in the last couple of years receive many international awards and acknowledgements.
The President of the European Museum Association (EMA), Wim van der Weiden, said that the goal of the forum is to recognize the role of the olive and olive oil museums in the development and promotion of Mediterranean countries in a touristic, cultural, agricultural and economic sense.
During the forum a charter about the cooperation between museums was signed, with the goal to work on their further development and promotion.
